I recently heard some new Soulja Boy songs that gave me the idea to write this. If you haven’t heard these songs, check them out before you read this.

Soulja Boy is the perfect example of one thing that is wrong with hip hop today. He started off with the huge hit, Crank That. I won’t lie, I liked that song. Then he came out with a new album so I checked it out to see how he would follow up such a popular song. Souljaboytellem.com was filled with the same sounding songs with similar FL Studio beats. After this album, his music really seemed to go downhill. His second album was iSouljaBoyTellEm. These two albums produced the chart topping songs such as Turn My Swag On, Kiss Me Thru The Phone, Yahh, etc. So my question is why does Soulja Boy continue to be so successful? I mean, I have heard nearly only negative comments about him. My guess is that it’s because of his image. He is an attractive (no homo) 19 year old male. I believe that his fan base is made up of mostly teenage girls, who could care less about his music. This is a disgrace to hip hop. A person’s image being called hip hop. The sad thing is that people hear Soulja Boy and assume that it’s all that hip hop is. It’s a real shame. He knows that he can put out any material and get positive feedback.

I was looking at some stuff people wrote about Soulja Boy on Twitter. It might just be me but I found something that made me laugh. Somebody named BADMOMA1 wrote this, and keep in mind this is an exact quote. “love my favorited rapers plies soulja boy love yall!” Soulja Boy and Plies. Wow I think the only rapper (or raper) you left off that list was Kevin Federline.

Now here are my reviews of some Soulja Boy songs.
G Walk: As soon as it starts out, you can tell by the beat that it’s going to be a train wreck. Then, Lil Jon comes in screaming, which doesn’t help at all. If you keep the song on past Lil Jon, first, congratulations. Second, you will hear Soulja Boy’s verse. His entire flow is just horrible and he just adds to it using lines like “Swag to the left, swag to the right, Soulja Boy and Lil Jon keep it crunk all night.” Honestly, I’ve never listened past the first verse, so I don’t know what the rest of the song is like.

Gucci Wings: What kind of flow is he using on this?!?! It’s like he’s out of breath and fits in his whack lyrics whenever he can. The chorus consists of him moaning the lyrics “God damn, Im goin ham. That boy can fly, gucci wings.” Soulja Boy only does the first verse, and whoever else is with him uses the same flow, and if it’s possible, may actually be worse than Soulja Boy.

But, congratulations to Soulja Boy. He’s more famous and making more money than I will ever dream of. He’s obviously done something right.
